When we began building an ETL platform on Snowflake we knew that data replication would be our first act, but the possibilities of a native app connected to the enterprise were far greater. Snowflake Intelligence is the beginning of this.

Accelerating the traditional data integration process

The first act of any integration tool has been to land data in Snowflake.

Whether you use an external SaaS tool like Fivetran, or the newly launched Snowflake Openflow, these traditional data pipeline tools are built with ingesting data as their sole specialized task. They are not connected to the endpoint in a flexible and dynamic way, the endpoints simply contain the data which needs to be moved from point A to point B.

And the data engineering process that these tools were built around fits, as such.

First one needs to understand the business questions that their customers are asking. They research the source, scope out the object model, and begin to iterate on the downstream products that answer those questions. While leaps and bounds have been made in recent years, the process still has considerable lead time and cycle times slow down decision making.

How it works

• We created a connection to our Salesforce environment using Omnata

• The Omnata Salesforce Plugin ships with live-query functions via Snowflake UDFs that reference connections created in Omnata

• Omnata also ships a Snowflake Intelligence agent (coming soon) that knows how to use the Omnata UDFs

• Snowflake Intelligence combines our instructions with its general knowledge of the Salesforce CRM and SOQL language to operate our functions.

These seemingly simple questions would be complex to build and deliver as a traditional data pipeline and product. However, this was answered in about 30 seconds! It illustrates how quickly Omnata’s direct connect architecture is supercharged by Snowflake Intelligence.
